Ways You Can Help Katrina's Animal Victims
Foster Homes Needed
Foster homes will be needed for the thousands of pets being recovered from the destruction left by Hurricane Katrina. We are compiling a database of foster homes for the various emergency response teams on the ground. Can you open your home to a pet who needs help? Can you provide transportation for foster pets? One of our favorite celebrities, Rue McClanahan, made an impassioned plea to President Bush on behalf of all of the people who are choosing to remain in danger rather than abandon their beloved pets. Read her letter here.
Alley Cat Allies, a fantastic organization dedicated to humanely solving the tremendous problem of feral cat overpopulation through Trap-Neuter-Return (TNR) programs and public education, has established a program to identify and provide aid to feral cat colonies in the region affected by Hurricane Katrina. If you're a feral colony caretaker or you know of a feral cat colony in need, please fill out the simple online form here.
